Something Like Silas - Alt-Rock Worshipers Debut June 15
Something Like Silas, a church-based alternative rock worship band with musical influences ranging from U2 to Radiohead, will release its debut album, DIVINE INVITATION, on June 15, featuring production by Steve Hindalong and Derri Daugherty (The Choir, City On A Hill).
The San Diego quintet, named after a Bible passage from Acts 6:23-24, has played in the same scene as fellow hometown acts Switchfoot and P.O.D., and is also known for helping found a local emerging church called Flood. There, Something Like Silas leads worship every Sunday for more than 3,000 members.
“We want to change the way people look at worship bands,” says vocalist/guitarist Eric M. Owyoung. “We want to play sweet music that engages people on their journeys toward knowing the hope found in God, whether they know him personally or are just open to it.”
DIVINE INVITATION is driven by dual jangling guitars, ambient keyboards, and tightly woven bass and drums – a sound that one record label executive calls, “a bit more spacious. It allows you, the participant, the time and environment to respond and connect with God – that is unique in modern worship today.”
Producer Steve Hindalong adds: “Something Like Silas is ‘a band’ in the true since – (the members) so distinct from one another, yet each contributing invaluable talent and personality to the collective spirit of the group. They’re all great musicians; but more importantly their faith is transparent by their goodness of heart. I feel lucky and blessed to have worked with them.”
Something Like Silas will initially promote the June 15 release of DIVINE INVITATION with a West Coast tour. For concert dates and more information about the band, click over to www.SomethingLikeSilas.com
